The Transition of the UIS Population to Fee-For-Service Medi-Cal: What physicians need to know
Approximately 2 million Medi-Cal members will transition from managed care to fee-for-service (FFS) Medi-Cal on January 1, 2027. This transition affects members with unsatisfactory immigration status (UIS) and represents a change in the delivery system, not a loss of Medi-Cal coverage.
This webinar will cover:
- Who is affected: An overview of the Medi-Cal population transitioning from managed care to fee-for-service and what the change means for physicians treating these patients.
- Provider enrollment and participation: How to verify physician enrollment with DHCS, including individual provider enrollment requirements associated with a Type 1 NPI needed for billing.
- Billing, reimbursement and authorization requirements: Key differences between managed care and FFS Medi-Cal, including billing procedures, treatment authorization requirements, and reimbursement.
- Care coordination and continuity of care: How to help patients navigate the transition and maintain access to necessary services, including available patient assistance and referral resources.
- Provider resources: Available DHCS tools, guidance and assistance to help physicians, their practices and patients navigate the transition.
This webinar will be presented by the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS).
