Physicians for a Healthy California (PHC) is dedicated to improving community health, growing a diverse physician workforce and promoting health equity. PHC's GME Startup Solutions seeks to grow and diversify the physician workforce by providing technical resources, and sponsoring events and programs that help California communities grow medical residency and graduate medical education (GME) programs in underserved areas and in the most needed specialties. Part 1: Is Becoming a Teaching Hospital Right for Your Organization? Examining the Feasibility of GME Participation
ECG is a national health care consulting firm that has worked with academic medical cen-ters (AMCs), hospitals and health systems, medical schools, and physician organizations for nearly 50 years. They maintain a dedicated academic health care team focused on the ed-ucation, clinical and research missions. Their nationally recognized, industry leading GME practice includes deep expertise in the establishment of new teaching hospitals; Medicare GME reimbursement and cap management; and GME strategy, operations and accredita-tion.
Therefore, PHC's GME Startup Solutions and ECG Management Consultants have launched a free, two-part webinar series to empower GME champions to meet California's critical access to care needs.
Physician workforce development leaders and healthcare executives considering future entrance into GME development can expect to learn how to evaluate the strategic, operational and cultural implications of becoming a teaching hospital.
Part 1 of this webinar series will outline the key components needed to determine whether GME is appropriate and feasible for your organization. In addition, this session will discuss the critical elements for building a strong case for GME participation, including value proposition, financial impact, and others.
Leah Gassett is a principal at ECG and leads the firm's Academic Healthcare Division. Leah works with large, university-based AMCs and their component organizations, as well as with new and existing community teaching hospitals, on issues specifically related to the hospital-based academic enterprise. Her highly detailed knowledge of GME organizational models, program accreditation requirements and Medicare reimbursement regulations enables her to partner with clients to address complex and multifaceted GME challenges.
Neelam Patel is a senior manager in ECG's Academic Healthcare Division. Her work encompasses GME strategy and feasibility, funds flow redesign and implementation, and health sciences center performance improvement. Neelam has recently worked with several nonteaching hospitals to establish new GME training programs, including feasibility assessments, financial modeling, and program design and accreditation.
